Each year, millions of Americans move into the home of their dreams. Five and a half years ago one family in particular was fortunate enough to do this after Smith Brothers Construction took part in Habitat for Humanity “Home Builders Blitz.” In June of 2006 Jeff Smith, owner of Smith Brothers Construction, lead his team to help build one of seven single story homes on a 1.5 acre lot in Escondido. While that was some time ago, Smith Brothers Construction has always been impressed with the work of Habitat for Humanity.
This past August one of Smith Brothers Construction’s associates took part in another Habitat for Humanity Build, this time just after a blitz of construction. The 2011 “Home Builders Blitz” took place August 1-5, 2011. Two homes were completed in the Libby Lake Community in Oceanside. While it was quite an accomplishment to build 2 two story homes in 5 days, 3 homes were left unfinished; the last of the entire project in Oceanside. That is where our associate came in. She joined a team of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo Alumni to help finish the job. With 12 people they tackled two homes in 6 hours to get siding on the backside of one home, get vents and windows installed, and frame out a second home. The project is still finishing up, but it is through the constant efforts of volunteers that families find their way into homes of their own.
Habitat for Humanity is a non profit organization that helps those in need of housing by giving without profit or interest. Smith Brothers Construction is proud to support an organization that gives back to the community in such a way.
