Elegant Holiday Decor for Warm Weather!

When we think of Christmas time and the holidays, we usually think of snow, cold air and soft snowflakes. But what happens if you live in an area that doesn’t have any of the usual wintery conditions? Here in San Diego, we have year-round beautiful weather and sunny days are a way of life. Decorating your home for the holidays can sometimes be challenging if it doesn’t feel like winter. By using a little creativity and incorporating local finds and greenery, you can still have lots of fun transforming your home into a “tropical” winter wonderland! Here are some ways to elegantly decorate your home for the winter holidays when the weather outside isn’t “frightful”:

Wreaths & Garlands

By mixing classic elements such as spruce and olive branches with details that are unexpected (like eucalyptus branches and succulents), you can create a modern take on the old standard wreath. Succulents and air plants can be arranged beautifully to make up a simple but lovely holiday wreath, they also have the added bonus of thriving in our coastal southern California climate. Add them to your front door to greet your friends and family. Who knows, you might even get a caroler or two!

A New Take on an Old Tradition

A great way to decorate your home for the holidays is to create your own tree. We at Smith Brothers got creative and came up with this fun take on the traditional Christmas tree. The hanging crystal ornaments mixed with the traditional holiday colored ball ornaments present an festive yet elegant look.

Dinner is Served

Even though it is warm outside, you can create that holiday feeling by setting a beautiful table. A great tip is to incorporate local greenery or fresh fruits from any number of San Diego farmers markets into your table centerpiece. The recipe for a table to remember? A dash of tradition, mixed with a pinch of glitz and a sprinkle of local finds!

Pop of Color

You don’t have to use the traditional color scheme of green and red for the holiday season. Instead, you can incorporate tones that compliment your existing decor. Colors such as silver, gold and bronze look great on mantels and shelves. You can also use local seasonal greenery, shrubs, leaves and berries to give a pop of color and cheer.

Gifts that Keep on Giving

Another fun holiday design idea is to use wrapped presents as decorations. The key is to use interesting materials for the finishing touches. You can use interesting bows and ribbons from a nearby fabric store or use tie-ons made from beads and buttons you can find at the local bead store.
